MVE & Partners Captures Three Prestigious Gold Nugget Awards at PCBC

McLarand Vasquez Emsiek & Partners, one of the nation’s leading architectural planning and interior design firms, has received the distinct honor of three Gold Nugget Awards for design excellence by Pacific Coast Builders Conference (PCBC). The Village at Traditions located in La Quinta, Calif. received two awards including, "Detached Residential Project of the Year" and "Best Single-Family Detached Home - 3,001 to 3,300 square feet." The Promenade at Rio Vista in San Diego, Calif. also garnered top honors for "Best Apartment Project - 4 or more stories."

The oldest and largest program of its kind, the Gold Nugget Awards honor creative achievements in architectural design and land use planning for residential, commercial, and industrial projects. The Gold Nugget Award winners represent excellence and innovation in addressing complex design / build issues in the 14 Western states.

Prior to the Gold Nugget Award ceremony, MVE was recognized with Award of Merits in 16 separate product types or categories of development. This not only underscores the firm’s depth of design expertise but also illustrates MVE’s substantial project diversity for its clients.

Highlighting the pedestrian friendly mixed-use community of The Promenade at Rio Vista in San Diego is the integration of light-rail transit and riverfront trails. Developed by Greystone Group and PLC Land Company, the 970 units consist of six structures over a two-level subterranean garage. Commercial and retail activities surround the commons. Inspired by the architecture of Irving Gill, the composition of flat and low-pitched roofs acknowledge and respond to the architectural tradition of the region.

The Village at Traditions in La Quinta complements the upscale quality established by the neighboring custom homes. The studied siting of the homes, along with the consideration of adjacencies and privacy, serve to create an intimate community. MVE provided site-specific solutions for the garages and guest homes, adding an element of customization and individuality to the neighborhoods. Developer Andrew Pierce Corporation’s attention to detail allowed MVE to create leading-edge designs.

MVE’S GOLD NUGGET AWARD HISTORY

McLarand Vasquez Emsiek & Partners, and its predecessor firms, have a long history with the Gold Nugget awards. In 1976, the firm’s first project, Orange Lakes, was awarded a Gold Nugget. Since that time, the firm has received a minimum of one Gold Nugget Award and as many as eight Gold Nuggets each year, excluding the years MVE participated as judges for the event. In 2002, MVE received two Grand Awards for Viejo Carmel, a unique 20-unit infill project in Carmel-by-the-Sea, Calif. and Durant Village, a 168-unit townhome development in Oakland, Calif.
