McLarand Vasquez Emsiek & Partners (MVE), a national architecture, planning and interior design firm, has promoted Jim Mittendorf to Vice President of Operations in the firm’s office.  MVE’s President Rick Emsiek today announced the promotion.

“Jim’s extensive knowledge and experience in operations, processes and design are integral to MVE’s successful expansion of the residential, urban, corporate, mixed-use and retail areas of our practice,” said Emsiek. “Jim’s leadership promises to foster our continued growth, and we are excited to have him assume his new role in Oakland.”

Headquartered in Irvine, MVE established its Oakland offices in 2000 to serve an expanding client base that now encompasses California’s Bay Area, Central Valley and other markets in the state’s northern regions.  With its practice in Northern California continuing to grow, MVE has recently remodeled and expanded its downtown Oakland office at Frank H. Ogawa Plaza, and Mittendorf will manage these expanded operations.

In his new role, Mittendorf is responsible for Oakland office operations and will become an integrated liaison to MVE’s Irvine base.  Leading design implementation for the firm’s architecture team, Mittendorf also manages code compliance, quality control, budget management, construction administration and field methodologies.

Mittendorf joined MVE in 1985, and has taken lead roles in such diverse and notable projects that include: The Concourse in San Jose, a commercial project adjacent to the San Jose International Airport; City Walk, a 251-unit loft project located in the urban core of downtown Oakland; and Uptown Oakland, a dynamic 14-acre mixed-use redevelopment project.  MVE’s Oakland office is also noted for design leadership for the following projects: 255 & 325 Berry Street in San Francisco’s Mission Bay; Franklin Street in Redwood City; North Park Apartment Village in San Jose; Oak to 9th in Oakland; and the Uptown Oakland Redevelopment.

Mittendorf is a registered architect in the state of California, a member of the American Institute of Architects and a member of the Design Build Institute.  He earned a Bachelor of Science at The California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

MVE is a recognized leader in design, planning and interiors for residential, commercial, mixed-use, hospitality, urban and institutional developments of every scale. The firm’s expertise also lies in the design of transit-oriented developments and has received numerous prestigious awards and accolades for transit projects such as Fruitvale Transit Village in Oakland.  MVE recognizes that transit villages and urban in-fill projects are new “lifestyle centers” and the next generation of housing that will revitalize U.S. cities and improve the quality of life around the country.
