Samantha Smiley Promoted to Associate Partner/Human Resources Director and Matthew McLarand to Associate Partner; both will be based in the firm’s headquarters office in Irvine, California.
McLarand Vasquez Emsiek & Partners (MVE), a national architecture, planning and interior design firm, has promoted Samantha Smiley to Associate Partner/Human Resources Director and Matthew McLarand to Associate Partner; both will be based in the firm’s headquarters office in Irvine, California. MVE’s President Rick Emsiek announced the promotions.

In her expanded role, Smiley will provide leadership and management of human resources activities including employee benefits, staff recruiting and employment law. Her duties have expanded to include partnering with MVE’s Principal group to support leadership and employee training as well as other related initiatives. Smiley has been with MVE since 2002.
As Associate Partner, Matthew McLarand leads the firm’s efforts in the design of high-rise residential and commercial developments and his experience with the firm includes a wide variety of large-scale commercial, mixed-use and multi-family projects. Among his recent projects are The Plaza Irvine, three luxury high-rise residential towers and a retail component in Irvine; and 6060 Center Drive - Howard Hughes Center, a 10-story office tower with advanced energy systems and communications capabilities in Los Angeles. McLarand has been with MVE since 1994 and holds a Bachelor of Architecture from the University of Southern California.
