Viejo Carmel Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA

Client: Lexor BuildersContractor: Lexor BuildersCompletion Date: June, 2001

This distinctive residential infill project nestles seamlessly into the quiet town of Carmel-by-the-Sea. The half acre site is composed of 5 cottage-scaled buildings containing a total of 20 townhome and stacked flat units over a one-level subterranean garage. The garage has 2, 3-foot steps in order to relate to the topography of the site, place the buildings in an ideal relationship to the street, and conceal the existence of the garage itself. The residential buildings above relate to the scale, character, and spirit of the town of Carmel. The residential units are designed with the 2nd home/vacation homebuyer in mind. The building is deliberately divided into 2 distinct architectural characters, which respond to the vernacular of the town and further break down the scale of the project.

Designed by McLarand Vasquez & Partners, Inc., an affiliated company.
