Kekuilani Kapolei, HI

Client: Kekuilani Development CompanyContractor: Kekuilani Development CompanyStatus: Completed

As part of the master planned Village of Kapolei, this community celebrates affordable living in the tradition of "Old Hawaii." The design concept begins with the project's name which means "where the supreme heaven resides." The Hawaiian "paradise" is designed to capture the ownership dream while reflecting the warmth and quality of traditional Hawaiian plantation architecture in contemporary pedestrian-oriented village.

Kekuilani integrates six individual villages totaling 645 housing units and achieves a socioeconomic balance with both for-sale and rental homes. A "themed drive" loops the site leading residents to a 1.6-acre "village green" central park. As the focal point of the community, this area acts as the major recreation center for the development and links all villages. Narrow private roads wind through the individual products achieving separation and privacy between communities. Building configurations are clustered, visually removing garages from the streetscape and creating pockets among buildings.
