Park Station San Francisco, CA

Client: SummerHill HomesContractor: Roberts-Obayashi Corporation

Park Station Transit Village is a small two-acre parcel that lies adjacent to the South San Francisco BART Station. The goal for this site is to help establish a new, more pedestrian-focused urban tone, for development along this regional thoroughfare. The plan established guidelines creating a framework for the character of new development in the area over time.

Despite the limitations set forth by the small site and numerous easements, Park Station has successfully accomplished its goal of using architecture that addresses perception and experience from all angles. It faces the channel with a passive, shared open space for residents and an attractive rear fatade facing the neighborhood across the channel and Mission Road. To encourage alternate transportation methods, 40 bike stalls are incorporated into the parking podium and at multiple points for pedestrian access between individual units to the BART station. Park Station incorporates stoops along three major frontages that help break down the larger scale of the project and create an urban edge, which also addresses the transition from public to private domain. The project includes 99 for-sale, market-rate condominium units over subterranean parking. The one and two-bedroom units range in size from 750 to 1,100 sq.ft.
