Located within the Judicial Courts Square of Riverside's historic downtown, this facility for the General Services Administration reflects the colors and massing of the original courthouse in contemporary materials and aesthetic expression. The articulated EIFS-clad building provides five courtrooms with expansion for a sixth. Interior spaces fit the dignity of the Court without being pretentious. MVE joined forces with The Ratcliff Architects (interior court specialists) in the innovative planning of this facility. The Family Law Court is an emotion-filled setting, making it one of the most difficult of court types. The need to create a highly efficient building that meets the stringent security requirements of the Court, while remaining within a very tight development budget, challenged the entire team to work together to maintain both time and budget controls. The courthouse was successfully completed in a period of twelve months.
