Located adijacent to San Jose's light rail system, this project is a role model for future affordable housing. It is master-planned as the first component of a "mixed-use transit village", providing the variety of building and unit types to achieve a balanced socio-economic neighborhood. A curvilinear street traverses the site, acting as a pedestrian promenade, directly linking and integrating the apartments to the transit site, including a commuter rail station and neighborhood retail node. To address the difficult site adjacencies of the freeway and rail edge, as well as single-family detached housing, the site plan was organized with lower density buildings fronting the neighboring single-family homes. Higher density buildings are internally organized on site, adjacent to the transit edge and neighboring high density projects.
